Early Christian Propaganda
Little
is known about this early form of Christian propaganda, although much
has been speculated. It has been put forth, with convincing arguments,
that this is:
- The work of an early Christian gnostic sect, arguing that Jesus' "this
is my body" speech was really the result of suppressed childhood
tensions. Mary, in this view, had been a hard-line Jewish fundamentalist,
and had been reenacting the story of Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac.
- A depiction of Mary getting revenge for Eve having been formed from
Adam's rib, actually the cover for a Roman cookbook that focused on babyback
ribs. The designer and marketer of the cookbook had tried to get in on
the whole "jesus" thing, but had had a poor understanding of
the basic tenets involved.
- Proof that circumcision is both necessary and correct, in that god sent
down the angel Motumbo to aid Mary in this sacred task. Note baby Jesus'
reluctance to submit himself to the act, and his apparent assumption that
the removed skin would be eaten. This shows that the early Christian church
was fraught with both Oral and Oedipal psychodramas.
- Proof of the existence of airships in biblical times. Note that something
vaguely ship shaped hovers in the air above Mary's head
- Mary had quite the ass. You can see a symbolic allusion to this on the
righthand side of the painting.
- Evidence that the early Church was actually in favor of late-term abortions,
particularly in houses where another child was already present.
